{"id":82032,"date":"2017-06-29T11:02:17","date_gmt":"2017-06-29T11:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=7441035e555435fe2053616832218afc"},"modified":"2017-06-29T11:02:17","modified_gmt":"2017-06-29T11:02:17","slug":"news-story-plans-published-to-make-it-easier-to-shop-around-for-legal-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=82032","title":{"rendered":"News story: Plans published to make it easier to shop around for legal services"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) spent a year conducting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/cma-cases\/legal-services-market-study\">thorough review<\/a>, known as a market study, of the industry and found that there was not enough information available on price, quality and service to help those in need of legal support choose the best option.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> has since been working with the Legal Services Board and 8 frontline regulators in England and Wales to drive the implementation of changes recommended by the study. Today they published their action plans for implementing our recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>Each regulator represents a different profession or area of the market (for example, solicitors, accountants, licensed conveyancers) and these regulators, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> and the Legal Services Board have been coordinating their plans for implementing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/legal-services-cma-recommendations\"><abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s recommendations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>\u2019s recommendations were designed specifically to improve transparency from legal firms on price, quality and service and enable customers to navigate the market more easily and get value for money.<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> recommended that the regulators:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>revise their regulatory requirements to ensure that companies offering legal services display information on price, service and conditions of redress openly on their websites and in their publicity material<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>improve and promote the existing Legal Choices website so that it becomes a starting point for customers needing help to navigate the market and purchase services<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>make more regulatory data available to facilitate the development of reliable comparison sites<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>encourage legal services providers to engage with feedback and review platforms to ensure that customers can benefit from the experience of previous consumers before making their choice<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 id=\"note\">Note<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>The 8 frontline legal services regulators in England and Wales are:<\/p>\n<p>a.
