{"id":82308,"date":"2017-07-06T14:39:22","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T14:39:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=4489d45e8487070b4966df4df0e149e9"},"modified":"2017-07-06T14:39:22","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T14:39:22","slug":"news-story-government-chemist-invited-back-to-allergen-management-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=82308","title":{"rendered":"News story: Government Chemist invited back to allergen management workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/people\/michael-walker\">Michael Walker<\/a>, Consultant Science Manager for the Governement Chemist programme, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/government-chemist-represented-at-allergen-management-workshop\">invited to present again<\/a> at an annual two day seminar on allergen management and advanced testing in Austria on 7 and 8 June 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The seminar, organised by Claudia Graf of <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.romerlabs.com\/\">Romer Labs<\/a>, part of the Erber Group, was attended by scientists and managers from food manufacturers and analytical service labs in Austria, Germany, Italy, Latvia and Lithuania.<\/p>\n<p>Michael delivered two sessions, \u2018Food Allergy \u2013 Challenges &amp; Developments\u2019 and \u2018EU-Regulation 1169\/2011 on allergen labelling for non-prepacked food\u2019 at the Erber Group headquarters in Getzersdorf, and took part in panel discussions at Romer Labs in Tulln.<\/p>\n<p>Other speakers included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Rachel Ward who provided key insights into allergen management in the food industry,<\/li>\n<li>Professor Sabine Baumgartner from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, who spoke on the fundamentals and practice of immunochemistry and mass spectrometry applied to allergen analysis, and<\/li>\n<li>Adrian Rogers, senior research scientist with Romer Labs who described the validation of allergen ELISA methods.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The workshop provided a good opportunity to network with scientists dealing with allergen management across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The Government Chemist team is regularly invited to speak at and be involved in allergen management workshops; earlier in 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/gc-represented-at-international-event-on-food-fraud-and-food-allergy\">Michael Walker represented the GC programme at an international event on food fraud and food allergy<\/a>.
