{"id":82515,"date":"2017-07-13T10:00:33","date_gmt":"2017-07-13T10:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fb6615b5cc3b03e8d782295a9c1bdfd9"},"modified":"2017-07-13T10:00:33","modified_gmt":"2017-07-13T10:00:33","slug":"press-release-mod-dipr-and-ploughshare-sign-agreement-for-wider-intellectual-property-commercialisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=82515","title":{"rendered":"Press release: MOD DIPR and Ploughshare sign agreement for wider intellectual property commercialisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Ministry of Defence\u2019s Intellectual Property Rights group (<abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence Intellectual Property Rights group\">DIPR<\/abbr>) has signed an agreement with <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ploughshareinnovations.com\">Ploughshare Innovations<\/a>, expanding Ploughshare\u2019s role to provide technology transfer services to the wider Ministry of Defence (<abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>Ploughshare is the UK\u2019s leading defence technology transfer company with responsibility for the technology transfer of early stage research and Intellectual Property (<abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr>) from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (<abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>This new agreement enables Ploughshare to have access to inventions from other <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> areas such as the all-staff <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> idea scheme \u2013 GEMS, niche technical areas such as Defence Medical Services (<abbr title=\"Defence Medical Services\">DMS<\/abbr>), and those instances where <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> owns <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> generated under contract, such as with the Atomic Weapons Establishment  (<abbr title=\"Atomic Weapons Establishment\">AWE<\/abbr> plc).<\/p>\n<p>Ploughshare will now have an increased portfolio of <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> which it can make available to industry to commercialise. In turn, <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> anticipates even greater impact from the investment it makes in research and development, and also for the wider contribution its staff can make.<\/p>\n<p>James Kirby, Ploughshare CEO, commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The commercialisation of government <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> benefits the UK economy in many ways. For example, <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Intellectual Property\">IP<\/abbr> alone has created 550 new jobs and generated exports in excess of \u00a344 million.
