{"id":82772,"date":"2017-07-20T11:54:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-20T11:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=67c32d326cd3442073b4ba9ca8bfb561"},"modified":"2017-07-20T11:54:00","modified_gmt":"2017-07-20T11:54:00","slug":"news-story-unions-suspend-strike-action-on-southern-rail-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=82772","title":{"rendered":"News story: Unions suspend strike action on Southern Rail"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><abbr title=\"Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen\">ASLEF<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers' Union\">RMT<\/abbr> have suspended planned strike action on Southern Rail on 1, 2 and 4 August and lifted a ban on overtime and rest day working.<\/p>\n<p>This follows 9 repeated offers by Transport Ministers to meet with <abbr title=\"Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen\">ASLEF<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers' Union\">RMT<\/abbr> if they called off strike action, beginning in November 2016. The Transport Secretary wrote to the unions with this offer most recently on Tuesday 18 July.<\/p>\n<p>The Transport Secretary will meet with <abbr title=\"Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen\">ASLEF<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers' Union\">RMT<\/abbr> shortly to discuss a solution that ensures passengers receive the high quality rail services that they deserve.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I remain committed to a strong future for the railways and one where the number of staff is likely to increase.
