The exhibition is part of Innovate UK\u2019s infocus campaign aimed at increasing the low number of women entrepreneurs applying for funding.<\/p>\n<p>Research shows that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>gender diverse companies are 15% more likely to deliver better financial returns<\/li>\n<li>Getty Images online searches for \u2018female business executive\u2019 have increased 350% and \u2018female entrepreneur\u2019 by 66% over the past 2 years<\/li>\n<li>the proportion of UK women in entrepreneurial activity is around half the level of men<\/li>\n<li>only 14% of all people working in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) are women<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Entrepreneur Jenna Bowen, founder of Cotton Mouton Diagnostics, in front of her photograph.\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/65711\/Jenna_Bowen_With_Picture.jpg\"><\/div><figcaption>Entrepreneur Jenna Bowen, founder of Cotton Mouton Diagnostics, in front of her photograph.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The exhibition profiles 12 of the winners of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/women-in-innovation-awards-2016-15-female-entrepreneurs-honoured\">women in innovation awards<\/a>, Innovate UK\u2019s funding competition open only to women. Their innovations range from the optimisation of cancer treatment and the creation of sustainable alternatives to animal products to air-pollution and waste solutions.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition also celebrates the differences and diversity among this group of female innovators \u2013 such as background, age, education, location and approach.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>The exhibition is free and open to the public at the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gettyimagesgallery.com\/\">Getty Images Gallery<\/a> until 29 July 2017.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dr Ruth McKernan, Innovate UK Chief Executive, commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Research shows that harnessing the skills of female entrepreneurs would significantly enhance UK economic growth and improve the breadth of management teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">One barrier identified from our own analysis is the relative lack of female role models.
