{"id":82895,"date":"2017-07-24T14:13:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-24T14:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=9fb67efcd3da7a153c89965d369fc1b5"},"modified":"2017-08-03T12:51:37","modified_gmt":"2017-08-03T12:51:37","slug":"press-release-ploughshare-successes-continue-to-support-uk-prosperity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=82895","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Ploughshare successes continue to support UK prosperity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> SQW report added<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Ploughshare Innovations, the technology commercialisation arm of the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (<abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>), is pleased to announce an increasing number of growth and economic benefits it has provided to the UK economy, including the creation of hundreds of jobs and multi-million pound export deals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/sqw-report-assessment-of-the-economic-and-wider-benefits-of-ploughshare-innovations-ltds-commercialisation-activities\">The latest report<\/a>, commissioned by Ploughshare and conducted by independent economics consultancy SQW, shows an increase in the benefits Ploughshare has delivered since the previously published report in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>The economic impacts include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The creation of a maximum of 585 jobs, an increase of 85<\/li>\n<li>An increase of 70% in exports from \u00a344 million to \u00a375 million<\/li>\n<li>\u00a3118 million Gross Value Added (GVA), a measure of goods and services produced, increased by \u00a353 million<\/li>\n<li>Spin-out companies have attracted \u00a3140 million investment, an increase of \u00a310 million<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to quantitative contributions, Ploughshare\u2019s activities have also provided wider qualitative benefits to both industry and society.<\/p>\n<p>The commercialisation of technologies has contributed to the development of new products for the Ministry of Defence (<abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr>), including advanced vehicle armour, electronic warfare software, and bio and chemical threat detection. In addition to improving UK capability, this also supports UK supply chains. For example, 85% of the suppliers for the vehicle armour product worldwide are UK-based.<br \/>\nBeyond defence, notable applications include portable diagnostic devices to detect viruses, which were trialled in Sierra Leone to support those affected by Ebola.<\/p>\n<p>James Kirby, CEO of Ploughshare Innovations commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This latest report again demonstrates the success that Ploughshare has become.
