The UK already has high survival rates. Better screening and diagnosing cancer earlier and faster will further improve this.<\/p>\n<p>Since the early 1990s, the incidence rates of all cancers in the UK have increased by 12%. In 2014, there were 357,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed. By 2035, there will be an estimated 500,000 people diagnosed with cancer in the UK each year.<\/p>\n<p>While more than half of people receiving a cancer diagnosis will now live 10 years or more, there is more that could be done to improve patient outcomes and long-term quality of life.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-you-need-to-know\">What you need to know<\/h2>\n<p>This is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/sbri-the-small-business-research-initiative\">Small Business Research Initiative<\/a> (SBRI).<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 phases to the competition. In phase 1 applicants can receive up to \u00a3100,000 for feasibility projects. A further \u00a31 million could be available to develop their solutions in phase 2.
