{"id":83022,"date":"2017-07-27T11:18:00","date_gmt":"2017-07-27T11:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=83895a185e6a539079ac1d951febd209"},"modified":"2017-07-27T11:18:00","modified_gmt":"2017-07-27T11:18:00","slug":"news-story-independent-report-on-kent-oyster-farm-published","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=83022","title":{"rendered":"News story: Independent report on Kent Oyster Farm published"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Independent experts commissioned by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency have produced a report looking at navigational risks in relation to oyster farm activity in the Whitstable area.<\/p>\n<p>The report, which has been published on the Marine Management Organisation\u2019s website, concludes that the farm\u2019s operations are acceptable as a low risk to marine navigation. It recommends mitigation to reduce the risk even further, although acknowledging that the farm\u2019s owners have already adopted this in some instances.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"assessing-navigational-risk\">Assessing navigational risk<\/h3>\n<p>In response to questions from members of the public the MMO <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/addressing-concerns-about-kent-oyster-farm\">previously agreed to work with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Trinity House<\/a> to assess how oyster racks in the area may affect local navigation and safety.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"marine-licensing-legislation\">Marine licensing legislation<\/h3>\n<p>The MMO\u2019s investigations under its marine licensing remit are still ongoing.<\/p>\n<p>The MMO has a difficult task in managing competing uses of the marine area.
