They will now move onto the next phase of their education well equipped for what lies ahead and I would like to thank their teachers whose dedication and hard work has helped them achieve success.<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s new gold-standard <abbr title=\"General Certificate of Secondary Education\">GCSEs<\/abbr> in English and maths have been benchmarked against the best in the world, raising academic standards for pupils. These reforms represent another step in our drive to raise standards, so that pupils have the knowledge and skills they need to compete in a global workplace.<\/p>\n<p>The fruits of these reforms will be seen in the years to come, but already pupils and teachers are rising to the challenge with more than 50,000 top 9 grades awarded across the new <abbr title=\"General Certificate of Secondary Education\">GCSEs<\/abbr> and more than two thirds of entries sitting the tougher English and maths exams securing a grade 4 or C and above &#8211; a standard pass.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">As we saw with last week\u2019s new A-levels, we are beginning to see our reforms translating into higher standards, improving opportunities and the life chances of millions of young people and helping to fulfil the voracious demand for knowledgeable and skilled young people from Britain\u2019s dynamic and growing economy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Today\u2019s (24 August, 2017) <abbr title=\"General Certificate of Secondary Education\">GCSE<\/abbr> results show:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Across English language, English literature and maths, there were 51,257 grade 9s awarded<\/li>\n<li>Entries in the reformed <abbr title=\"General Certificate of Secondary Education\">GCSE<\/abbr> subjects of English language, English literature and maths all increased from last year<\/li>\n<li>There have been record entries into geography <abbr title=\"General Certificate of Secondary Education\">GCSEs<\/abbr> this year<\/li>\n<li>Post-16 attainment for a standard pass in English has risen from 24.4% last year, to 31.1% in England<\/li>\n<li>Attainment in modern foreign languages remains broadly stable, including French, German and Spanish<\/li>\n<li>More pupils appear to be taking their maths <abbr title=\"General Certificate of Secondary Education\">GCSEs<\/abbr> at a time that is right for them as early entries in maths reduced by 64.6%, but the number of entries gaining a grade 9 is at 13.3%, compared to 3.5% overall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minister of State for School Standards, Nick Gibb, congratulates students on GCSE results day<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/83657"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=83657"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/83657\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=83657"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=83657"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=83657"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
