{"id":83929,"date":"2017-09-04T11:00:17","date_gmt":"2017-09-04T11:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=76cfb3c0612f5342bdab853f501fd361"},"modified":"2017-09-04T11:00:17","modified_gmt":"2017-09-04T11:00:17","slug":"news-story-exploiting-data-to-improve-cancer-care-apply-for-contracts-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=83929","title":{"rendered":"News story: Exploiting data to improve cancer care: apply for contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.thedatalab.com\/\">Data Lab<\/a>, working with <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/dhi-scotland.com\/\">Digital Health and Care Institute (DHI) Scotland<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stratmed.co.uk\/\">Stratified Medicine Scotland<\/a>, has up to \u00a3425,000 to award in contracts for innovative data science projects.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to develop ways of using existing NHS Scotland data to improve cancer patient care and outcomes in Scotland.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"bringing-together-different-data-sets\">Bringing together different data sets<\/h2>\n<p>Outcomes for cancer patients in Scotland lag behind those of other North European countries.<\/p>\n<p>The NHS in Scotland has a huge amount of clinical and administrative data that could help in improving health care and outcomes for patients with cancer. However, many different data sets are spread across a variety of different information technology systems in different organisations.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-you-need-to-know\">What you need to know<\/h2>\n<p>Proposals should seek to support at least one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>analysis of unstructured data (for example, clinical notes or medical imaging)<\/li>\n<li>data-driven clinical decisions<\/li>\n<li>data-driven service improvement in the NHS<\/li>\n<li>data-driven recruitment for clinical trials<\/li>\n<li>adoption of precision medicine approaches<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Potential approaches include predictive analytics, visualisation, machine learning, natural language processing, and processing of structured and unstructured data.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"two-phase-competition\">Two-phase competition<\/h2>\n<p>Funding for this competition is under the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI).<\/p>\n<p>It will run in 2 phases. The first phase will be for smaller feasibility studies.
