{"id":84876,"date":"2017-09-28T13:22:43","date_gmt":"2017-09-28T13:22:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=104df50bd26173829a8e2d3f47e4d201"},"modified":"2017-09-28T13:22:43","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T13:22:43","slug":"news-story-infected-blood-scheme-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=84876","title":{"rendered":"News story: Infected blood scheme reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Department of Health published its response to the recent consultation on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/consultations\/infected-blood-support-special-category-mechanism\">infected blood support and the special category mechanism<\/a> on 28 September.<\/p>\n<p>As part of this response, the government announced new payment \u2018uplifts\u2019 and a new special category mechanism (SCM) to improve financial support for those affected by the infected blood tragedy of the 1970s and 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>At least 2,400 people died and thousands more were exposed to Hepatitis C and HIV, with life-changing consequences, as a result of receiving infected blood.<\/p>\n<p>The following measures will now be introduced:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>a new SCM will be introduced so more people with hepatitis C stage 1 can claim financial support with no distinction between severities of illness suffered<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>the SCM will consider any significant and sustained adverse impact of Hepatitis C infection or its treatment on the ability of an individual to carry out routine day-to-day activities<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>administration of the current 5 payments schemes will be given to a single body &#8211; the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA). The NHSBSA will start on 1 November 2017<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u2018uplifts\u2019 to annual payments from 2018 to 2019 and increasing the amount of discretionary funding available<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>adding membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) to the list of stage 2 Hepatitis C conditions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The discretionary payment scheme has been changed so that all groups can get the support they need quickly, both financial and otherwise<\/p>\n<p>The department has increased annual spend on support payments to record levels since 2015, committing an additional \u00a3125 million in funding for support.<\/p>\n<p>The changes concern people who were infected in England.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government announced reforms to payments supporting people who received infected blood during NHS treatment in the 1970s and 1980s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84876"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=84876"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84876\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=84876"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=84876"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=84876"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
