{"id":85108,"date":"2017-10-06T14:38:15","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T14:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=1354f64a3b3e2a8b824050f9ed924ebd"},"modified":"2017-10-06T14:38:15","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T14:38:15","slug":"news-story-fish-merchant-fined-for-fisheries-offences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=85108","title":{"rendered":"News story: Fish merchant fined for fisheries offences"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Midland Fish Company Ltd, which operates from Fleetwood Fish Market, was sentenced at Blackpool Magistrates\u2019 Court on 25 September 2017 in a prosecution brought by the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>The court heard how the company, a registered buyer of first sale fish, had failed to submit sales notes to the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> within the 48 hour period required by <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> regulations.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations by <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> officers revealed a total of 49 sales notes, with a total value of \u00a313,811 and a total weight of 1,875kg were not submitted to the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> by the company between 23 April 2014 and 29 September 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Director Kenneth Hayton pleaded guilty on behalf of the company and was ordered to pay a fine of \u00a32,500, \u00a32,197.50 costs and a victim surcharge of \u00a3170.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The requirement to submit sales notes within 48 hours enables the <abbr title=\"Marine Management Organisation\">MMO<\/abbr> to gain an accurate picture of fish stocks on which to base its fisheries management decisions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">When, as in this case, sales notes are not submitted that picture becomes partial, distorted or inaccurate.
