{"id":85110,"date":"2017-10-06T14:11:32","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T14:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=07e2e6bf9bfa51b4feede1b607c17128"},"modified":"2017-10-06T14:11:32","modified_gmt":"2017-10-06T14:11:32","slug":"press-release-highest-impact-investor-recognition-for-innovate-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=85110","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Highest impact investor recognition for Innovate UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The OBN Awards 2017 celebrate the best of UK life sciences and Innovate UK was judged the winner of the Highest Impact Investor award for its work in supporting innovative companies in the industry over the past year.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/improved-drug-safety-and-stroke-detection-firms-get-15-million\">Innovate UK confirmed that a further 46 projects in the health and life sciences sector<\/a> will share \u00a315 million in funding from its latest competition.<\/p>\n<p>Innovate UK\u2019s Director of Health &amp; Life Sciences Ian Campbell attended the ceremony, and said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This was awarded unanimously by the judging panel and based on the special contribution that Innovate UK is making to growing and scaling SMEs.<\/p>\n<p>As we celebrate Innovate UK\u2019s tenth anniversary, we are grateful for the recognition that this award gives us as a funder and supporter of high value UK businesses working in health and life sciences.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We were also encouraged to see so many Innovate UK supported businesses nominated or winning awards at the OBN ceremony.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Innovate UK is at the forefront of supporting UK business as they seek solutions and new approaches to healthcare, food production and quality. We committed to spend up to \u00a3117 million (21% of our core budget of \u00a3561 million) on health and life sciences in 2016\/17.<\/p>\n<p>The projects Innovate UK funded that have had success in the past year include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>biopharmaceutical company, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/living-medicine-cancer-therapy-starts-clinical-trials\">Autolus has progressed to trial its novel CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell) therapy<\/a> for people with multiple myeloma, which is the second most common blood cancer<\/li>\n<li>health tech start-up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/entia-hand-held-blood-testing-lab-for-cancer-care-patients\">Entia has developed a hand-held blood testing kit that can be used at home by chemotherapy patients<\/a>, which helps them to manage their treatment<\/li>\n<li>University of Oxford spin-out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/case-studies\/spin-out-sets-the-pace-with-real-time-running-style-retraining\">Run3D has developed a real-time analysis and retraining system<\/a> to help professional athletes, sportsmen and women, and runners to avoid injuries and improve their performance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The OBN Awards, which are in their 9th year, were presented in a ceremony at Oxford Town Hall (October 5) and recognise outstanding scientific innovation within biotech, medtech, digital, synthetic biology, the companies that support the industry and the fundraisers that make it happen.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"background\">Background<\/h2>\n<h3 id=\"innovate-uk\">Innovate UK<\/h3>\n<p>Innovate UK is the UK\u2019s innovation agency.
