Following the meeting, the Minister for Europe said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">As Spanish courts have ruled, the poll on 1st October was not held within the Spanish legal and constitutional framework. Holding it was therefore illegal and an attempt to undermine the rule of law. We would not recognise any declaration of independence based upon it.
