{"id":85620,"date":"2017-10-23T09:53:15","date_gmt":"2017-10-23T09:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=3585abceacc3e60eb5534a26cf0641dc"},"modified":"2017-10-23T09:53:15","modified_gmt":"2017-10-23T09:53:15","slug":"press-release-dstl-analyst-supports-military-in-hurricane-hit-caribbean","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=85620","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Dstl analyst supports military in hurricane-hit Caribbean"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Richard Hoyes, an operational analyst based at Portsdown West, deployed to the Caribbean to support the military following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.<\/p>\n<p>With just 3 days\u2019 notice Richard travelled to Barbados to join the military part of the Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (<abbr title=\"Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief\">HADR<\/abbr>) Operations on the island. He provided operational analysis to the headquarters of the <abbr title=\"Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief\">HADR<\/abbr> Operations, focusing on how best to move people and freight across the many Caribbean islands with the aircraft available, and planning deployment of military force back to the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Richard worked with the military, other government departments and civilian organisations. He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The conditions in Barbados were very different to working in a lab, but it was highly rewarding to be part of<br \/>\nsupporting the aid of the islands. I felt my analytical experience was put to good use and I hope that I made a difference helping the islands get back on their feet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Richard is just one of more than 30 members of <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> staff who are trained and ready to deploy anywhere in the world in support of military operations. As part of <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>\u2019s support to operations capability, <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> has a pool of operational analysts and scientific advisers who can support the military at a moment\u2019s notice and even deploy on operations.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr> also has a 24-hour, 365-day \u2018reachback\u2019 capability, which provides rapid access to the breadth and depth of <abbr title=\"Defence Science and Technology Laboratory\">Dstl<\/abbr>\u2019s capabilities in support of military operations.
