{"id":85667,"date":"2017-10-24T08:30:17","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T08:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=349169e826cc418ff3237e7b14ac37e5"},"modified":"2017-10-24T08:30:17","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T08:30:17","slug":"news-story-safer-and-more-efficient-school-transport-apply-for-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=85667","title":{"rendered":"News story: Safer and more efficient school transport: apply for funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eani.org.uk\/#\">Education Authority (EA) in Northern Ireland<\/a> has up to \u00a3200,000 to invest in smart transport projects that improve the way it delivers home-to-school transport.<\/p>\n<p>Around 89,000 school-age pupils in Northern Ireland currently use school transport assistance provided by EA, including 50,000 that receive paid for passes for Translink public transport services and 25,000 that use authority-owned buses free of charge.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"smart-solutions-for-transport-challenges\">Smart solutions for transport challenges<\/h2>\n<p>The authority is looking for projects that examine ways of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improving convenience for pupils, for example, by replacing physical passes and loading lists with smart alternatives<\/li>\n<li>understanding usage patterns, for example, by facilitating data capture on each individual trip made by each pupil<\/li>\n<li>improving fleet logistics by analysing data received on routes used and vehicle telematics<\/li>\n<li>improving pupil safety and security, for example, through a system of alerts on bus timings or if a pupil unexpectedly fails to board a service<\/li>\n<li>linking with other transport providers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Funding will be for feasibility studies under the SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative) programme.
