{"id":85689,"date":"2017-10-24T15:18:30","date_gmt":"2017-10-24T15:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=865bd9d56a0e6f3dbb5c2010d42df283"},"modified":"2017-10-24T15:18:30","modified_gmt":"2017-10-24T15:18:30","slug":"press-release-enforcement-undertaking-agreed-with-vegetable-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=85689","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Enforcement Undertaking agreed with vegetable company"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>An enforcement undertaking (EU) has been agreed with a vegetable processing company after it grossly polluted Brook Drain in Wormegay, King\u2019s Lynn, Norfolk with water used to wash carrots.<\/p>\n<p>The Environment Agency accepted the offer by Alfred G Pearce Ltd to put right any damage caused by the pollution and to donate to an environmental charity.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the EU, the company has donated \u00a312,000 to the Norfolk Rivers Trust to benefit the local environment and also paid the Environment Agency\u2019s costs.<\/p>\n<p>Helen Blower, Environment Agency officer said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Enforcement undertakings allow those who commit offences to restore the environment and to take steps to prevent a recurrence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">When appropriate, they allow a quicker resolution than a prosecution and help offenders who are prepared to take responsibility for their actions to put things right voluntarily working with their local communities.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Formal sample results taken after the incident in February 2016 revealed a gross pollution of the water course.<\/p>\n<p>The company told the Environment Agency that an inspection chamber which also acted as an overflow tank had been damaged by a reversing lorry and there had been no system in place to alert them of the damage and no procedure for checking the Brook Drain on a regular basis. This had led to a delay in rectifying the problem.<\/p>\n<p>Since then the damage has been repaired, bollards placed to prevent a recurrence of the damage, installing bunded areas to contain spills and installing a new treatment plant.<\/p>\n<p>The EU was offered in relation to an offence of pollution under regulation 38 of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The EU was completed in July 2017.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a312,000 donated to Norfolk Rivers Trust to benefit local environment<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/85689"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=85689"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/85689\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=85689"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=85689"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=85689"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
