{"id":86007,"date":"2017-11-03T10:29:43","date_gmt":"2017-11-03T10:29:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=b700df0c642d6dbf2a03f9b5fb744095"},"modified":"2017-11-03T10:29:43","modified_gmt":"2017-11-03T10:29:43","slug":"press-release-claiming-a-funeral-payment-to-be-made-easier","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86007","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Claiming a Funeral Payment to be made easier"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Funeral Payments are available to people who receive certain income-related benefits to help pay towards the cost of a funeral for an immediate friend or relative.<\/p>\n<p>The government consulted on reforms to make it clearer who is eligible for a payment and make it easier for people to claim.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Family Support, Housing and Child Maintenance Caroline Dinenage said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Losing a loved one is a sad and difficult time and we want to make the process of claiming a funeral payment as simple as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I want to thank those who responded to our consultation and I am pleased that we will be bringing in all its recommendations to make it easier for people to make a claim.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The improvements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>allowing recipients of a Funeral Payment to receive contributions from relatives, friends or charities without it being deducted from the payment<\/li>\n<li>extending the claim period from 3 to 6 months from the date of the funeral<\/li>\n<li>allowing applicants to submit evidence electronically to speed up the processing of claims and get decisions to claimants sooner<\/li>\n<li>introducing a shorter application form for children\u2019s funerals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"more-information\">More information<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/funeral-payments\">Funeral Payments<\/a> can help pay for the costs of a simple, respectful funeral for people on qualifying benefits.
