{"id":86350,"date":"2017-11-15T09:09:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T09:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=90c76a96656030f641e20c996e925859"},"modified":"2017-11-15T09:09:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-15T09:09:00","slug":"press-release-government-backs-british-talent-with-2-4-million-funding-for-music-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86350","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Government backs British talent with \u00a32.4 million funding for music exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<ul>\n<li>UK artists receive \u00a32.4 million funding boost for music exports<\/li>\n<li>a total of 162 UK acts were supported through Government\u2019s Music Exports Growth Scheme (<abbr title=\"Music Exports Growth Scheme\">MEGS<\/abbr>)<\/li>\n<li>\n<abbr title=\"Department for International Trade\">DIT<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"British Phonographic Industry\">BPI<\/abbr> award further \u00a3181,944 to help UK artists achieve success in international markets<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The country\u2019s up-and-coming music acts are being encouraged to set their sights on the world stage thanks to a government export scheme.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest round of funding, 12 UK music acts have received grants including Public Service Broadcasting, twice-mercury nominated Ghostpoet, Folk Rock duo Zervas &amp; Pepper and 5 piece pop punk band ROAM, who all hope to maximise their chances of going global or further increasing their international exposure.<\/p>\n<p>In total so far, 162 acts have received more than \u00a32.4 million of funding in their bid to become the next Adele or Ed Sheeran through the Music Export Growth scheme (<abbr title=\"Music Exports Growth Scheme\">MEGS<\/abbr>).  The scheme which is jointly run by the <abbr title=\"Department for International Trade\">DIT<\/abbr> and the UK record label association, the <abbr title=\"British Phonographic Industry\">BPI<\/abbr>, helps raise the international profile of developing British artists and their music companies.<\/p>\n<p>To further promote UK music talents abroad, the Government is launching a trade mission to India at the start of February 2018 (1st to 7th). Based in Mumbai, it will help connect music talent with record labels and talent scouts and presents a significant export potential in the world\u2019s seventh largest economy.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Trade and Export Promotion, Baroness Rona Fairhead said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The UK is a world leader in music exports and recognised for its exceptional home-grown talent around the globe. Through the music exports scheme, we help to nurture the talent of the future to explore new global markets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">As an international economic department, we are launching a trade mission to India to connect music artists with investors in one of the world\u2019s largest economies, ensuring the strengths of our creative industry sector reach audiences at home and abroad.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Chris Tams, <abbr title=\"British Phonographic Industry\">BPI<\/abbr> Director of International overseeing the <abbr title=\"Music Exports Growth Scheme\">MEGS<\/abbr> programme, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The Music Exports Growth Scheme gives a diverse range of artists who have the talent, but not always the means to realise its full potential, the opportunity to grow their fanbase in key international markets.<br \/>\nIn the process it helps to promote the profile of British music overseas and, crucially, helps to boost our exports \u2013 so far to the tune of a 10 -1 return on investment for each Pound put in by the UK Government.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Obaro Ejimiwe, the artist known as Ghostpoet, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It\u2019s truly amazing to be selected for funding, this money will really help to make in-roads into mainland Europe. It\u2019s been a while since I toured over there properly and this cash injection is not only timely but very much appreciated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"Music Exports Growth Scheme\">MEGS<\/abbr> recipient Public Service Broadcasting said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We\u2019d like to thank <abbr title=\"Music Exports Growth Scheme\">MEGS<\/abbr> once again for continuing to help us with what often prove to be very expensive overseas tours. On a limited budget such as ours (as is the case with almost every band in the independent sector, who need this kind of support), it really makes a difference. We\u2019ll carry on working hard at our end to justify the investment and make the most of the opportunity<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>To date, UK music exports were worth \u00a32.5 billion in 2016 and through the scheme, the country has seen a return of \u00a310 for every \u00a31 invested.<\/p>\n<p>The Department for International Trade (<abbr title=\"Department for International Trade\">DIT<\/abbr>), in partnership with AIM (The Association of Independent Music) and <abbr title=\"British Phonographic Industry\">BPI<\/abbr> (British Phonographic Industry), is launching the UK music trade mission to Mumbai, India, which will take place from 1st to 7th February 2018 and help connect music businesses and presents a significant export potential in the world\u2019s seventh largest economy.<\/p>\n<p>The grants, ranging from \u00a35,000 to \u00a350,000, are available to eligible UK based-music companies with a turnover of less than \u20ac50 million and fewer than 250 employees, providing them with an opportunity to enhance their profile in overseas markets, as well as develop their commercial potential.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for the next round (12) of <abbr title=\"Music Exports Growth Scheme\">MEGS<\/abbr> funding will be open for applications from the 8th January 2018 and will close on 5th Feb 2018.
