{"id":86373,"date":"2017-11-15T12:56:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-15T12:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=cba3033ab5c0e01288a559e6c60cca85"},"modified":"2017-11-15T12:56:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-15T12:56:00","slug":"press-release-foreign-secretary-meeting-with-richard-ratcliffe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86373","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Foreign Secretary meeting with Richard Ratcliffe"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Foreign Secretary updated Mr Ratcliffe on the FCO\u2019s efforts on behalf of his wife, and said that the British Ambassador in Iran had once again raised the case with the Iranians this morning and urged:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>consular access<\/li>\n<li>appropriate medical treatment<\/li>\n<li>a decision on Richard Ratcliffe\u2019s visa application<\/li>\n<li>access for Richard Ratcliffe to see his wife if a visit does go ahead<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They discussed Mr Ratcliffe\u2019s recent suggestion of diplomatic protection. The Foreign Secretary and officials outlined that the key question is whether diplomatic protection will have a positive impact on the case, given all the representations that have already been made. They agreed that lawyers should meet in the coming fortnight to discuss it further.<\/p>\n<p>They also talked about the Foreign Secretary\u2019s plan to visit Iran before the end of the year and Richard Ratcliffe\u2019s request to accompany him on that visit. The Foreign Secretary said that our overriding principle in handling this case is to secure a permanent family reunion, not a temporary one.
