{"id":86642,"date":"2017-11-24T15:07:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-24T15:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=6cfc65c27f17aee5ee8621072a4a63bc"},"modified":"2018-09-21T12:02:36","modified_gmt":"2018-09-21T12:02:36","slug":"news-story-basic-disclosure-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86642","title":{"rendered":"News story: Basic disclosure changes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Email addresses updated in line with recent changes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<h2 id=\"basic-disclosure-check-changes\">Basic disclosure check changes<\/h2>\n<p>From January 2018, if you need a basic disclosure check for a job in England and Wales, you should apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).<\/p>\n<p>If you need a basic disclosure check for a job in Scotland, then you should apply to <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/organisations\/disclosure-scotland\/\">Disclosure Scotland<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you want a check for personal reasons rather than work purposes, you should apply where you live \u2013 DBS if you live in England or Wales or Disclosure Scotland if you live in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>If you are applying to DBS you will be able to use our new online application route that will be available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gov.uk\/basic-dbs-check\">GOV.UK<\/a>. Alternatively, you can use a \u2018Responsible Organisation\u2019 (RO) \u2013 a third party registered with DBS \u2013 to submit checks on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>A list of Responsible Organisations can be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/responsible-organisations\">https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/responsible-organisations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"responsible-organisations\">Responsible Organisations<\/h2>\n<p>Organisations that can demonstrate that they can submit a minimum of 1000 basic checks a year, meet our processing standards and agree to the Terms &amp; Conditions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/basic-check-guidance-and-policies\">https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/basic-check-guidance-and-policies<\/a> will be able to apply to become an RO and build a web service.<\/p>\n<p>If you are eligible and thinking about becoming a RO please email <a href=\"mailto:customerservices@dbs.gov.uk\">customerservices@dbs.gov.uk<\/a> to find out more.<\/p>\n<p>DBS has already increased staffing levels to deal with the additional checks. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/responsible-organisations\">Those organisations that have already transferred their basic disclosure checks to DBS<\/a> are already benefiting from a speedy service, with checks taking on average less than one day to process.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals and ROs should send basic disclosure checks to the right organisation, DBS or Disclosure Scotland, so that the correct Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) rules are applied.
