{"id":86675,"date":"2017-11-27T12:00:05","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T12:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=2d845da3e5ccc3d268530f05805ed746"},"modified":"2017-11-27T12:00:05","modified_gmt":"2017-11-27T12:00:05","slug":"news-story-tackling-disease-with-healthcare-innovations-apply-for-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86675","title":{"rendered":"News story: Tackling disease with healthcare innovations: apply for funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>There is up to \u00a312 million to support projects that are developing or testing out new healthcare products, technologies or processes.<\/p>\n<p>This funding is available through the Biomedical Catalyst, a partnership between Innovate UK and the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc.ac.uk\/\">Medical Research Council<\/a> that supports innovative opportunities in the life sciences.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/innovate-uk-health-and-life-sciences\">Find out more about how we support innovation in health and life sciences.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"quicker-more-effective-healthcare\">Quicker, more effective healthcare<\/h2>\n<p>Projects in the Biomedical Catalyst could:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>help to prevent or manage chronic conditions<\/li>\n<li>lead to better detection or diagnosis of disease<\/li>\n<li>that treat disease or offer potential cures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In this funding round there are 2 competitions.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"late-stage-projects\">Late-stage projects<\/h2>\n<p>Up to \u00a38 million is available for late-stage projects that test a well-developed concept and demonstrate its suitability in a relevant environment.<\/p>\n<p>A late-stage project can include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>initial human proof-of-concept studies<\/li>\n<li>demonstration of clinical utility and effectiveness<\/li>\n<li>demonstration of safety and efficacy. This includes phase I and II clinical trials<\/li>\n<li>developing production mechanisms<\/li>\n<li>prototyping<\/li>\n<li>market testing<\/li>\n<li>intellectual property protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 id=\"competition-information\">Competition information<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition is open, and the deadline for applications is 7 February 2018<\/li>\n<li>projects must be led by a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME), working alone or with other SMEs or research organisations<\/li>\n<li>we expect projects to range in size from \u00a3200,000 to \u00a34 million and to last between 1 and 3 years<\/li>\n<li>businesses could attract up to 70% of their project costs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/apply-for-innovation-funding.service.gov.uk\/competition\/79\/overview\">Find out more about the competition for late-stage awards and apply.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"primer-awards\">Primer awards<\/h2>\n<p>A further \u00a34 million is available in primer awards. This is for projects that carry out technical evaluations through to proofs of concept in a model system.<\/p>\n<p>A primer project could include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>experimental evaluation done at laboratory scale<\/li>\n<li>initial demonstration using in vitro and in vivo models.
