{"id":86676,"date":"2017-11-27T11:59:00","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T11:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=940f7142d9a21e041c41723e6d90aef3"},"modified":"2017-11-27T11:59:00","modified_gmt":"2017-11-27T11:59:00","slug":"news-story-vice-chair-appointment-to-the-judicial-appointments-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86676","title":{"rendered":"News story: Vice Chairman appointment to the Judicial Appointments Commission"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Lady Justice Rafferty has been appointed as a new senior judicial commissioner and Vice Chairman to the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) from 14 November and will run until 26 July 2020.<\/p>\n<p>JAC is an independent body that selects candidates for judicial office in courts and tribunals in England and Wales, and for some tribunals with UK-wide jurisdiction. Candidates are selected on merit, through fair and open competition.<\/p>\n<p>JAC Commissioners are appointed by Her Majesty the Queen on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor.<\/p>\n<p>Appointments and re-appointments to JAC are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.  These appointments have been made in line with the Commissioner\u2019s Code of Practice for Ministerial Appointments to Public Bodies.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"biography\">Biography<\/h3>\n<p>Dame Anne Judith Rafferty was called to the Bar (Gray\u2019s Inn) in 1973, and became Queen\u2019s Counsel in 1990. She was appointed a Recorder in 1991, a Deputy High Court Judge in 1996, and was made a Bencher of Gray\u2019s Inn in 1998. She was appointed to the High Court (Queen\u2019s Bench Division) in 2000 and was a Presiding Judge of the South Eastern Circuit between 2003 and 2006. In 2011, Dame Anne was appointed Lord Justice of Appeal.
