{"id":86844,"date":"2017-11-30T09:30:31","date_gmt":"2017-11-30T09:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=b76b033aa855dc0080ad987f3ff9f78a"},"modified":"2017-11-30T09:30:31","modified_gmt":"2017-11-30T09:30:31","slug":"speech-testing-expectations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=86844","title":{"rendered":"Speech: Testing expectations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/69574\/Alan_Hassey.jpg\" alt=\"Dr Alan Hassey\"><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>I\u2019ve written before about work that the National Data Guardian and its panel members have been doing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/speeches\/reasonable-expectations\">how patient data is shared to support individual care<\/a>, implied consent and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/speeches\/exceeding-expectations\">the role that people\u2019s expectations play<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since those pieces were published we\u2019ve been quite busy on this subject, and have more planned.<br \/>\nToday we\u2019re publishing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/sharing-data-in-line-with-patients-reasonable-expectations\">the reports of 2 events<\/a> we held to examine this topic in conjunction with <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sheffield.ac.uk\/faculty\/social-sciences\/making-a-difference\/sheffield-solutions\">Sheffield Solutions at the University of Sheffield<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first, in July this year, looked at what the courts have said about when an individual can be said to have consented to information being shared and how that might be reflected in the way patient data is shared.<\/p>\n<p>Our second event, last month, brought a group of health and care professionals together to see if they saw challenges around the use of implied consent as a legal basis for sharing data, and whether the legal concept of \u2018reasonable expectations\u2019 might help.<\/p>\n<p>We are now working with <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.connectedhealthcities.org\/\">Connected Health Cities<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/citizensjuries.org\">Citizens\u2019 Juries CIC<\/a> to hold a citizens\u2019 jury in January.
