{"id":87104,"date":"2017-12-07T12:00:01","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T12:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=377aded24d5088f1b60c776544d1a8d2"},"modified":"2017-12-07T12:00:01","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T12:00:01","slug":"news-story-developing-advanced-reactors-for-nuclear-apply-for-contracts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=87104","title":{"rendered":"News story: Developing advanced reactors for nuclear: apply for contracts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/department-for-business-energy-and-industrial-strategy\">The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy<\/a> (BEIS) has up to \u00a344 million to invest in an advanced modular reactor feasibility and development programme.<\/p>\n<p>Up to \u00a34 million pound is available for projects that look into the feasibility of designing new reactors that maximise the amount of off-site building and can generate lower cost electricity and provide additional benefits.<\/p>\n<p>A further \u00a340 million could be available to develop the best projects from the first phase of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The funding is for contracts under the SBRI (Small Business Research Initiative).<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/sbri-the-small-business-research-initiative\">Find out more about SBRI and how it works.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"providing-low-cost-electricity\">Providing low-cost electricity<\/h2>\n<p>The government believes nuclear energy will be an important part of the future energy mix. However, it needs to be competitive with other sources of low-carbon energy or provide additional benefits and functionality.<\/p>\n<p>BEIS is looking for projects that focus on at least one of the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>low-cost electricity generation<\/li>\n<li>increased flexibility in providing electricity to the grid<\/li>\n<li>additional functionality such as heat output for domestic or industrial use or production of hydrogen<\/li>\n<li>alternative applications that could generate revenue and economic growth such as radioisotope production<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"competition-information\">Competition information<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>the competition opens on 7 December 2017, and the deadline for registration is at midday on 7 February 2018<\/li>\n<li>SBRI is open to any organisation that can demonstrate a route to market for its idea<\/li>\n<li>projects should be led by organisations with experience in nuclear reactor technologies.
