{"id":87499,"date":"2017-12-20T15:54:00","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T15:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=8564995215b7589fa3f145d36302b2bd"},"modified":"2017-12-20T15:54:00","modified_gmt":"2017-12-20T15:54:00","slug":"news-story-minister-alan-duncan-announces-an-additional-7m-in-funding-for-the-colombian-peace-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=87499","title":{"rendered":"News story: Minister Alan Duncan announces additional \u00a37 million funding for the Colombian peace process"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>As part of the UK\u2019s continuing commitment to a lasting peace in Colombia, Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister for the Americas Sir Alan Duncan has announced an increase in financial support for Colombia\u2019s Peace Agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (<abbr title=\"Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia\">FARC<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>Over \u00a37 million of additional funding from the Government\u2019s Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF) will support the peace agreement at a critical stage. This includes a new \u00a35 million contribution to the UN\u2019s Trust Fund, which will help reintegrate former combatants and support recovery in post conflict areas.<\/p>\n<p>Sir Alan Duncan, Minister for Europe and the Americas, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am delighted to announce that the UK is increasing support to Colombia\u2019s Peace Process with over \u00a37 million of additional funding, bringing our total support in 2017 to 2018 to almost \u00a312 million.<\/p>\n<p>There has been significant progress since the signing of the peace agreement in November 2016. The <abbr title=\"Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia\">FARC<\/abbr> have laid down their arms and become a political party. But there is more work ahead. The implementation of the peace agreement is now entering a critical and complex stage, which is why we are increasing our support.<\/p>\n<p>The new funding has enabled the UK to contribute an extra \u00a35 million to the UN Trust Fund, which will support projects that help stabilisation in post-conflict areas, and the reintegration of former combatants back into normal life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The funding will also provide additional support to the Organisation of American States Peace Monitoring Mission in Colombia, and to the work of the UN Office for Human Rights.
