{"id":87534,"date":"2017-12-21T11:52:01","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T11:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f3d4be8ba1119c9397bea34a32aa4aeb"},"modified":"2017-12-21T11:52:01","modified_gmt":"2017-12-21T11:52:01","slug":"news-story-sellafield-spreads-75000-of-christmas-cheer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=87534","title":{"rendered":"News story: Sellafield spreads \u00a375,000 of Christmas cheer"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Sellafield Ltd\u2019s pledge for Christmas 2017 was to support a range charities throughout Cumbria and Warrington.<\/p>\n<p>With the support of supply chain companies, a total of \u00a375,000 was raised for the below causes;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Shoebox appeal for the elderly \u2013  120 shoe boxes full of gifts were delivered to elderly care home residents at Castle Mount, Bethany House, Bethshan, Dentholme and Wyndam House.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>North Lakes Foodbank \u2013 800kg worth of tinned food will make up around 150 food packs for families in need.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Cash4Kids \u2018Mission Christmas\u2019 &#8211; \u00a36,365 cash donations and 52,217 worth of gifts will help 700 children in Cumbria. Courage the Cat\u2019s visit to site brought in an extra \u00a32,300.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Home Start, Warrington \u2013  Over 400 bedtime gifts contributed to 61 bedtime hampers for children with an additional cash donation of \u00a3323.44.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Room at the Inn, Warrington \u2013 Hundreds of tins and toiletries donated to Room at the Inn. An additional \u00a3323.44 cash was raised at Daresbury and an extra \u00a3335 came from Christmas Jumper day.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Families and Wellbeing toy appeal \u2013 Hundreds of gifts and pyjamas were donated for families supported by Warrington Borough Council\u2019s Neighbourhood team.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Throughout December, employees and supply chain colleagues have been directed to local shops to purchase gifts, toys and food, and asked to take an extra Christmas gift to work \u2013 meaning Cumbrian and Warrington businesses have also benefited from the appeal.<\/p>\n<p>The CFM radio charity mascot, Courage the Cat, made his way around the nuclear site to carry out a mass collection of gifts for disabled and disadvantaged children throughout Cumbria.<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of toys were also donated in the Warrington area by employees.<\/p>\n<p>Barbara Parratt, from the Families and Wellbeing Toy Appeal said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">For us, it\u2019s not just a gift to help make a Christmas for the families we support, it\u2019s part of us helping and working with a family to ensure they get the support in terms of debt and deprivation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jamie Reed, Sellafield Ltd\u2019s head of community and development, explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We are intrinsically linked to our communities. There is no \u2018us\u2019 and \u2018them\u2019. When you donate toys for local children there is a good chance that they will end up in houses on your street.
