{"id":87599,"date":"2017-12-22T12:59:44","date_gmt":"2017-12-22T12:59:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5b75dbc50d118bb23f44c848b69385a8"},"modified":"2017-12-22T12:59:44","modified_gmt":"2017-12-22T12:59:44","slug":"press-release-government-announces-champion-for-uks-silicon-valley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=87599","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Government announces champion for UK\u2019s \u2018Silicon Valley\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Communities Secretary Sajid Javid today (22 December 2017) announced a new champion for the Cambridge-Milton Keynes-Oxford corridor &#8211; an area of the country that has the potential to become the UK\u2019s Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Iain Stewart MP, who represents Milton Keynes South, will take on the role of standard-bearer for this important economic area working with partners to help it fulfil its potential.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/autumn-budget-2017\">Budget<\/a>, the Chancellor set out an ambitious locally-led development programme for the area covering infrastructure, housing and business investment. This includes a housing deal with Oxfordshire for 100,000 homes by 2031 and investment in transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Communities Secretary Sajid Javid, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We know that this corridor has the potential to transform into globally significant economy, we must grasp this once-in-a-generation opportunity to unlock growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We have a bold vision for the region and want to attract the brightest and the best. The appointment of Iain Stewart as a dedicated champion will help us work in partnership with communities and secure the corridor\u2019s position as a world class economic area, and a key driver of UK prosperity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As part of the role Mr Stewart will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>champion a vision for the corridor with stakeholders including local authorities, local councillors and MPs on a cross-party basis, local enterprise partnerships and local businesses<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>gather intelligence on local issues and update government to help deliver this vision in a way that is locally informed<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>attend events and meetings, along with local stakeholders and ministers as appropriate, to promote the corridor, for example to promote trade and investment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>carry out media engagements to promote the corridor<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Iain Stewart MP said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As someone who has lived and worked in the region for many years, I\u2019m delighted to be given the opportunity to champion the government\u2019s vision for the corridor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It\u2019s vital that government and communities work hand in hand to deliver economic growth, and I look forward to bringing together stakeholders and working to transform the corridor into the UK\u2019s answer to Silicon Valley.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"further-information\">Further information<\/h2>\n<p>At the Budget, the government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/helping-the-cambridge-milton-keynes-oxford-corridor-reach-its-potential\">published a vision document<\/a> for the Cambridge-Milton Keynes-Oxford corridor.<\/p>\n<p>This role will not have decision-making power.
