{"id":87726,"date":"2018-01-04T13:59:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-04T13:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=4f00e7fb48253ef6d8ed93f489fb6055"},"modified":"2018-03-14T13:49:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T13:49:08","slug":"news-story-the-maritime-enterprise-innovation-and-research-conference-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=87726","title":{"rendered":"News story: The Maritime Enterprise Innovation and Research Conference 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Updated:<\/em> Additional details on the Royal Navy challenges announced at the Maritime Enterprise Innovation Scotland Conference (MEISC) in January 2018 have been added. <\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research (<abbr title=\"Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research\">MEIR<\/abbr>) unit are looking for key technologies that will significantly improve the ability for unmanned\/ autonomous systems to operate in the underwater environment, by expanding their use and employ-ability for military and commercial use. Proposals will be welcomed through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/defence-and-security-accelerator-enduring-challenge\"><abbr title=\"Defence and Security Accelerator\">DASA<\/abbr> Open Call for Innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/defence-and-security-accelerator-enduring-challenge\/meisc18-briefing-on-royal-navy-challenges\"><abbr title=\"Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research\">MEIR<\/abbr> challenges<\/a> were briefed in detail at the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ewds3.strath.ac.uk\/meir\"><abbr title=\"Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research\">MEIR<\/abbr> Conference at the University of Strathclyde<\/a> in Glasgow on 24 January 2018. <abbr title=\"Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research\">MEIR<\/abbr> members, included the Royal Navy and <abbr title=\"Ministry of Defence\">MOD<\/abbr> subject matter experts, who were on hand at the event to discuss the technical detail behind the challenges. Representatives from the <abbr title=\"Defence and Security Accelerator\">DASA<\/abbr> were also present to discuss how the Open Call will support this.<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 specific challenges for which the Royal Navy seeks innovative technologies to resolve, by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Providing, or contributing towards, low power, high accuracy navigation for unmanned underwater vehicles (<abbr title=\"unmanned underwater vehicles\">UUV<\/abbr>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This challenge is based on the fact that current <abbr title=\"unmanned underwater vehicles\">UUV<\/abbr> navigation systems tend to rely on relatively high power inertial systems. A low power solution would enable greater endurance or increased capability, and utility could be increased through expanding the ability to navigate without input from other traditional autonomous navigation sensors (for example, GPS).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allowing longer duration operations from autonomous systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This challenge is based on expanding system range and endurance through advanced energy management and generation, energy scavenging and storage, and the use of low power systems.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research\">MEIR<\/abbr> aims to bring together Users, <abbr title=\"small and medium-sized enterprises\">SMEs<\/abbr>, Tier1 Industry partners, <abbr title=\"Defence and Security Accelerator\">DASA<\/abbr> and Defence Innovation funding to develop a clear exploitation path to solve\/assist solving complex maritime problems in the underwater environment through creativity and collaboration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DASA is supporting the Maritime, Enterprise, Innovation and Research Conference (MEIR) at the University of Strathclyde on 24 January 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87726"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=87726"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87726\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":89936,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87726\/revisions\/89936"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=87726"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=87726"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=87726"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
