Applicants must be unemployed or working less than 35 hours a week to be eligible. People who are currently receiving support under the Prince\u2019s Trust\u2019s in-person Enterprise programme are also eligible.\n<\/p>\n<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.princes-trust.org.uk\/\">The Prince\u2019s Trust<\/a> and Innovate UK are seeking young people between 18 and 30 with business ideas that could be turned into reality.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ideas-can-come-from-anywhere\">Ideas can come from anywhere<\/h2>\n<p>The competition &#8211; part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/innovate-uk-diversity-and-inclusion#ideas-mean-business:-campaign\">ideas mean business campaign<\/a> &#8211; will help young adults to make their ideas a success, no matter where they come from.<\/p>\n<p>Business ideas could be spotting a solution to a problem or a different way of doing things.<\/p>\n<p>They could involve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>changing something for the better in a local community<\/li>\n<li>a new way of using technology to fix an everyday problem<\/li>\n<li>a new way to tackle an environmental issue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/diIL5C_534M\">ideas mean business<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-support-is-on-offer\">What support is on offer?<\/h2>\n<p>Support is available to young innovators who can commit 15 hours a week to developing their idea.<\/p>\n<p>This award will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an allowance to cover time spent working on the idea<\/li>\n<li>coaching and mentoring from an innovation champion<\/li>\n<li>a funding pot for activities or resources, such as travelling to meet customers and partners, training courses, equipment, office space and IT<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"who-can-apply\">Who can apply?<\/h2>\n<p>To be eligible applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be a UK resident that has the right to work in the UK, or is applying for the right to do so<\/li>\n<li>be unemployed or working less than 35 hours a week<\/li>\n<li>not be studying or studying less than 14 hours a week<\/li>\n<li>be aged between 18 and 30<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>People currently receiving support from the Prince\u2019s Trust\u2019s in-person Enterprise programme are also eligible to apply.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-to-register\">How to register<\/h2>\n<p>Applicants will need to register with The Prince\u2019s Trust, where they will then be able to sign up to attend one of a series of regional events. These events will help young people to develop their ideas and give more information about the application process.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>You must attend an event in order to apply. We will be able to reimburse costs. If you are not able to attend but still want to apply contact <a href=\"mailto:younginnovators@ktn-uk.org\">younginnovators@ktn-uk.org<\/a> to discuss.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There will be 2 batches of events: The first events are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cardiff, Wales, 5 February<\/li>\n<li>Ipswich, East Anglia, 5 February<\/li>\n<li>Birmingham, West Midlands, 6 February<\/li>\n<li>Brighton, South East, 7 February<\/li>\n<li>Plymouth, South West, 8 February<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you attend one of these events you will need to submit your application by 1 March 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The second batch of events will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Newcastle, North East, 26 February<\/li>\n<li>Belfast, Northern Ireland, 26 February<\/li>\n<li>York, Yorkshire and the Humber, 27 February<\/li>\n<li>Manchester, North West, 1 March<\/li>\n<li>Glasgow, Scotland, 2 March<\/li>\n<li>Nottingham, East Midlands, 2 March<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Delegates to these events must apply by 22 March 2018.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.princes-trust.org.uk\/help-for-young-people\/princes-trust-online\/young-innovators\">Find out more about the programme and apply.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p>Contact <a href=\"mailto:younginnovators@ktn-uk.org\">younginnovators@ktn-uk.org<\/a> for advice or to discuss your application.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"about-the-campaign\">About the campaign<\/h2>\n<p>Last year, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/\">YouGov<\/a> research &#8211; commissioned by The Prince\u2019s Trust and Innovate UK &#8211; found that 82% of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds found the business sector difficult to access. 4 in 5 would not know where to get advice about setting up a business.<\/p>\n<p>However, more than half said they would like to run their own company and 39% had ideas for products and services they could sell.<\/p>\n<p>Ideas mean business launched to address these issues and support and empower young people into innovation.
