{"id":88346,"date":"2018-01-25T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-25T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=14d54569b2ce8a637fd935a597927777"},"modified":"2018-01-25T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-01-25T09:00:00","slug":"news-story-community-projects-to-benefit-from-45-million-of-hs2-government-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=88346","title":{"rendered":"News story: Community projects to benefit from \u00a345 million of HS2 government funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<ul>\n<li>community projects along High Speed Two (<abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr>) railway route to get a cash boost from \u00a345 million government pledge<\/li>\n<li>\n<abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Minister Nusrat Ghani visits Crewe to announce \u00a35 million to help communities along <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Phase 2a from the West Midlands to Crewe<\/li>\n<li>first recipients of the Community and Environment Fund (<abbr title=\"Community and Environment Fund\">CEF<\/abbr>) and Business and Local Economy Fund (<abbr title=\"Business and Local Economy Fund\">BLEF<\/abbr>) are confirmed today<\/li>\n<li>fund will provide legacy of improvements along the Phase One route from London to the West Midlands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Community projects along the new <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> railway route will receive more than \u00a3245,000 as part of a \u00a345 million pledge by the government to provide a legacy of improvements for generations to come, <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Minister Nusrat Ghani announced today (25 January 2018).<\/p>\n<p>A Northamptonshire pre-school, a 900 year-old Warwickshire church and an environmental awareness charity in London are amongst the first recipients of the Community and Environment Fund (<abbr title=\"Community and Environment Fund\">CEF<\/abbr>) and Business and Local Economy Fund (<abbr title=\"Business and Local Economy Fund\">BLEF<\/abbr>) &#8211; a \u00a340 million fund to support local economies and communities affected by the Phase One construction of <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> between London and Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>Today <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Minister Nusrat Ghani visited Crewe station to announce an extension of the scheme \u2013 with a further \u00a35 million being made available to help communities along <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Phase 2a route from the West Midlands to Crewe.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=d7vlRnRhcQY\">Community projects to benefit from \u00a345 million of <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> government funding <\/a><\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Minister Nusrat Ghani said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> will be the backbone of our national rail network \u2013 supporting growth and regeneration and helping us build a Britain fit for the future. Whilst we know there will be disruption as we deliver one of Europe\u2019s biggest infrastructure projects, we are absolutely committed to minimising the effects of building the new railway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">That is why I am delighted to see this significant funding helping to unlock the potential of communities and businesses along the route, ensuring the legacy of <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> extends beyond the railway. These diverse and empowering projects will help regenerate local areas and bring people closer together, and I look forward to seeing more grants being funded in the future.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>These funding allocations highlight the government\u2019s determination to ensure <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> is more than just a railway, but a catalyst for economic growth, driving regeneration as well as improving the transport landscape around the rail line.<\/p>\n<p>The cash will be spent on public projects such as the refurbishment of community centres, nature conservation and measures to support local economies and employment.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/guidance\/hs2-phase-one-how-to-apply-for-community-and-business-funds\">Apply for the Phase One community and business funds<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cathy Elliott, independent chair of <abbr title=\"Community and Environment Fund\">CEF<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"Business and Local Economy Fund\">BLEF<\/abbr> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We have had a fantastic response so far and are proud to be supporting a variety of projects which will bring huge benefits to their communities for many years to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">More funding is available for eligible applicants in the <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Phase One area and throughout the construction of Phase One. We look forward to announcing more funded local projects for Phase One and the launch date for Phase 2a applications.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mark Thurston, <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> <abbr title=\"Limited\">Ltd<\/abbr> chief executive, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As we deliver <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr>, we have the opportunity to leave a positive legacy for the communities along the route of the railway. Our Community and Environment Fund, and its twin Business Fund, are starting to support important local initiatives, including building renovations and environmental projects.
