This challenge will invest \u00a3181 million over 4 years to speed up patient access to new drugs and treatments. It should return \u00a31 billion to the UK economy.<\/p>\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/industrial-strategy-challenge-fund-joint-research-and-innovation#accelerating-innovative-healthcare-and-medicines\">Find out more about this challenge.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 id=\"new-approaches-must-deliver-big-improvements\">New approaches must deliver big improvements<\/h2>\n<p>The competition is seeking new approaches that can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>improve commercially-viable manufacturing processes<\/li>\n<li>scale-up the production of new medicines through reliable and robust methods<\/li>\n<li>increase yield of active ingredient<\/li>\n<li>lower cost of production and goods<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Medicines that are in scope are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>advanced therapy medicinal products<\/li>\n<li>natural product medicines<\/li>\n<li>nucleic acid-based drugs<\/li>\n<li>prophylactic vaccines<\/li>\n<li>protein or peptide biopharmaceuticals<\/li>\n<li>small molecular weight pharmaceuticals<\/li>\n<li>virus and phage therapeutics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The competition will fund a variety of projects across different markets, technologies and medicines.
