{"id":89777,"date":"2018-03-09T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-03-09T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=95ae8cc47d91aa511d93b0bbac7de549"},"modified":"2018-03-09T11:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-09T11:00:00","slug":"news-story-government-confirms-commitment-to-crewe-hub-vision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=89777","title":{"rendered":"News story: Government confirms commitment to Crewe Hub vision"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<ul>\n<li>plans for <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> Phase 2a will be modified to support Crewe Hub<\/li>\n<li>these changes allow an <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> service to Stoke-on-Trent<\/li>\n<li>more people to have access to high speed, long-distance train services from Crewe<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>A high-speed rail service to Stoke-on-Trent, platform extensions and a re-designed junction at Crewe to give more people access to <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> are amongst plans being backed by government, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has confirmed today (9 March 2018).<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s support for the Crewe Hub vision means plans for <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> Phase 2a from the West Midlands to Crewe will be modified to include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>extension of Platform 5 at Crewe to 400 metres, to allow for the splitting and joining of <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> services, which also opens opportunities to serve Stoke-on-Trent with <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr>\n<\/li>\n<li>a more efficient design for the proposed platform on the Manchester independent lines, incorporating a transfer deck to the main station<\/li>\n<li>a change to the design of the southern connection from <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr>, so that <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> joins, and takes over, the central 2 lines on the existing network<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Secretary of State also intends to ask the franchise operator, West Coast Partnership, to include a high speed service to Stoke-on-Trent in its market development and service plans.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7QdG59rN7OM&amp;feature=youtu.be\">Video of Nusrat Ghani on <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> at Crewe Station<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State Chris Grayling said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We have listened to people\u2019s views on the Crewe Hub consultation, ensuring that the town\u2019s proud history as an epicentre of rail journeys is set to continue, as it plays a vital role in delivering Britain\u2019s future railway.<\/p>\n<p><abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> will be the backbone of our national rail network, increasing capacity on our congested rail network with thousands more seats on commuter services, improving vital connections between some of our country\u2019s biggest cities and generating jobs, skills and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It also builds on our earlier decision to bring the benefits of <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> to Crewe from 2027 &#8211; 6 years earlier than originally planned &#8211; as well as allowing the benefits of a high-speed service to extend to Stoke-on-Trent.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Extending <abbr title=\"High Speed 2\">HS2<\/abbr> to Crewe is a vital step in achieving the government\u2019s ambition to build a country that works for everyone.
