{"id":89927,"date":"2018-03-14T12:08:16","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T12:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=d321dd6fedb4dd66307193fa2e2d30b3"},"modified":"2018-03-14T12:08:16","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T12:08:16","slug":"press-release-man-who-bit-off-a-piece-of-his-victims-ear-has-sentence-increased","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=89927","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Man who bit off a piece of his victim\u2019s ear has sentence increased"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A man who bit off a piece of his victim\u2019s ear has had his sentence increased after the Solicitor General appealed it for being too low.<\/p>\n<p>Leon Smith attacked his victim, who was known to him, while he sat in his parked car in July 2016. Smith opened the driver\u2019s door and shouted at the victim to get out and when the victim refused the offender kicked the victim in the mouth. Smith then kicked the car door and reached in and grabbed the victim\u2019s face and forced his thumb into the victim\u2019s eye. The victim was able to force the offender\u2019s hand away and at that point the offender bit the victim\u2019s ear, ripping off a piece of the ear.<\/p>\n<p>Smith was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and originally sentenced to 2 years\u2019 imprisonment suspended for 2 years at Lewes Crown Court. Today, after the Solicitor General\u2019s action, the sentence was increased by the Court of Appeal to 4 years and 8 months immediate custody.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the hearing the Solicitor General, Robert Buckland QC MP, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a vicious attack on a defenceless victim which will have lasting consequences.
