{"id":89977,"date":"2018-03-15T12:03:29","date_gmt":"2018-03-15T12:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f10ecb3acbf857e0fbf622ebced5bdde"},"modified":"2018-03-15T12:03:29","modified_gmt":"2018-03-15T12:03:29","slug":"news-story-derby-and-burton-hospital-trust-merger-cleared-by-cma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=89977","title":{"rendered":"News story: Derby and Burton hospital trust merger cleared by CMA"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The Competition and Markets Authority (<abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr>) has found that the merger between Derby Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust and Burton Hospitals Foundation Trust is expected to result in substantial patient benefits, and that these outweigh any potential competition concerns that may arise as a result of the merger.<\/p>\n<p>The 2 trusts provide services predominantly in the Derbyshire and East Staffordshire area and the hospitals they operate overlap across a number of healthcare services. Following the merger, the <abbr title=\"Competition and Markets Authority\">CMA<\/abbr> found that patients would have less choice for some services, potentially reducing the Trusts\u2019 incentives to maintain or improve quality in these services.<\/p>\n<p>However, it found that these concerns were outweighed by substantial expected benefits overall.
