{"id":90296,"date":"2018-03-23T09:43:08","date_gmt":"2018-03-23T09:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=ac5f4a86ea8ad494214be05c60e91ede"},"modified":"2018-03-23T09:43:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T09:43:08","slug":"news-story-innovate-uk-first-council-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=90296","title":{"rendered":"News story: Innovate UK: first Council announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Innovate UK has announced the members of its first Council, who will advise and make decisions on Innovate UK\u2019s operations as it becomes part of <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ukri.org\/\">UK Research and Innovation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With a specific focus on innovation, they will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>provide leadership in their field of activity, including prioritising budgets within their delegated remits and and developing delivery plans<\/li>\n<li>ensure a pipeline of skilled specialists and other roles that are essential to the sustainability of the UK\u2019s research and innovation capacity<\/li>\n<li>engage with the innovation and business community to develop ideas, raise awareness and share strategic outputs<\/li>\n<li>encourage and facilitate collaborative work across the 9 Councils to build strategic relationships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"range-of-expertise-and-experience\">Range of expertise and experience<\/h2>\n<p>The members are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sir Harpal Kumar, who will serve as Senior Independent Member through his role as UK Research and Innovation\u2019s Innovation Champion and work closely with the board<\/li>\n<li>Dr Arnab Basu MBE, Chief Executive, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kromek.com\/\">Kromek Group plc<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Baroness Brown of Cambridge DBE FREng FRS (Julia King)<\/li>\n<li>Professor Juliet Davenport OBE, Chief Executive, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodenergy.co.uk\/\">Good Energy<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Dr John Fingleton, Chief Executive, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fingletonassociates.com\/\">Fingleton Associates<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Priya Guha, Ecosystem General Manager, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rocketspace.com\/tech-campus\/london\">RocketSpace UK<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Dr Elaine Jones, Vice President, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/partners\/venture-investments\">Pfizer Ventures<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Professor John Latham, Vice-Chancellor of <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.coventry.ac.uk\/\">Coventry University<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Sir William Sargent, Chief Executive, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.framestore.com\/\">Framestore<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li>Stephen Welton, Chief Executive, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bgf.co.uk\/\">Business Growth Fund<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Innovate UK\u2019s funding is awarded to businesses of different sizes across a wide range of industries, and the Council\u2019s membership reflects that.<\/p>\n<p>They have a range of expertise and experience in research and innovation across business, entrepreneurship, investment, technology development, economics and business impact evaluation, with different characteristics and professional backgrounds.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"champions-of-business-led-innovation\">Champions of business-led innovation<\/h2>\n<p>Chief Executive of Innovate UK, Dr Ruth McKernan said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As UK Research and Innovation begins its work, the Council of Innovate UK will have a vital role to play. They will champion the vital role that business-led innovation and the commercialisation of research play in driving economic growth and increasing productivity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The important duties of the Council means that we need people who are up to the task. It\u2019s fantastic that the role has attracted people of such high calibre from a diverse range of backgrounds. We look forward to them taking on the task with enthusiasm and passion.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Council replaces Innovate UK\u2019s governing board.
