The UK-India Statement of Intent on Partnership for Cooperation in Third Countries will be extended, with the aim of improving the health and wealth of both countries.<\/p>\n<p>Health research will be expanded in the areas of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>anti-microbial resistance<\/li>\n<li>low cost health products<\/li>\n<li>high yield crops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The UK government will invest \u00a31 million in an Artificial Intelligence (AI) project that will support India\u2019s national health programmes. UK-based companies with innovative healthcare technologies will be able to participate in this project, which will generate around \u00a350 million of business for the UK\u2019s digital health industry.<\/p>\n<p>There are also plans to develop up to 5,000 diagnostic centres in India using NHS expertise, equipment and suppliers.<\/p>\n<p>Eleven new \u2018medicities\u2019 are already being developed in India, with related:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>hospitals<\/li>\n<li>nursing and medical colleges<\/li>\n<li>research and innovation centres<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The medicities programme is run by the Indo UK Institute of Health (<abbr title=\"Indo UK Institute of Health\">IUIH<\/abbr>) in partnership with leading UK hospitals, the first of which is King\u2019s College Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Jeremy Hunt said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am proud that our NHS will be used as an example of gold standard healthcare in India \u2013 it is only right that our world-leading knowledge and expertise is shared across the globe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Global disease, infection and antimicrobial resistance are real threats to us at home and abroad \u2013 this partnership will enable us to tackle 21st century threats together.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Health Minister Steve Brine said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Health expertise and research is a global issue \u2013 if we act alone in tackling virulent diseases and long term health threats, we will fail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This partnership between Britain and India represents a firm trajectory for healthcare into the modern world.
