{"id":91379,"date":"2018-04-25T15:10:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T15:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=d07ba88c10da9d890631d7dd81f80170"},"modified":"2018-04-25T15:10:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-25T15:10:00","slug":"news-story-aviation-industry-welcomes-brexit-roundtable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=91379","title":{"rendered":"News story: Aviation industry welcomes Brexit roundtable"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<ul>\n<li>Chris Grayling and Steve Baker discuss priorities post-Brexit with aviation industry leaders<\/li>\n<li>aviation access to remain the same during the implementation period, offering vital reassurance to consumers and businesses<\/li>\n<li>industry leaders and government speak of confidence for the implementation period and beyond<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling and Steve Baker, Minister for Exiting the European Union, have met with representatives from the aviation industry today (25 April 2018) to discuss how the sector can continue to flourish after the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> leaves the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting with senior representatives from the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> aviation industry follows the Prime Minister\u2019s tour of the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> to mark one year until Brexit.<\/p>\n<p>And it also follows agreement in March 2018 between the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> to the terms of the implementation period, ensuring the aviation industry can continue to benefit from the existing liberal market access until the end of 2020. This paves the way for the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> to continue to participate in the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.easa.europa.eu\/\">European Aviation Safety Agency<\/a> during this period.<\/p>\n<p>The Transport Secretary spoke of the importance of the liberal aviation access agreements and harmonised safety standards, underlining the benefits they bring to both the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Both representatives from industry and government ministers agreed it is in the interests of both the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> and the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> to secure a good deal for aviation as soon as practical in the future negotiations, ensuring businesses and citizens can continue to enjoy a high level of connectivity, choice and value for money.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Aviation connectivity is crucial for businesses and citizens alike and it is vital that market access continues uninterrupted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">It has been invaluable to discuss with industry leaders their priorities for a future deep and special partnership with the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> on aviation. We are confident that the <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> will get a good deal which allows our aviation industry to continue to flourish.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"Department for Exiting the European Union\">DExEU<\/abbr> Minister Steve Baker said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Britain\u2019s aviation industry is one of the biggest in Europe, and we are pleased the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> has recognised its importance to people and businesses right across the continent as we move onto discussing our future partnership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We are focused on reaching an agreement with the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> which secures the right arrangements for this vital industry so it continues to go from strength to strength.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tim Alderslade, Chief Executive of Airlines <abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr>, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"United Kingdom\">UK<\/abbr> airlines support the implementation period and the reassurance that market access to, from and within the <abbr title=\"European Union\">EU<\/abbr> \u2013 as well as to third countries such as the United States \u2013 will be protected. We are pleased that the government accepts that continued participation in the European Aviation Safety Agency is both desirable and in the interests of all sides.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We welcome that aviation is a priority in the negotiations and look forward to discussions on future market access beginning as soon as possible.
