{"id":91976,"date":"2018-05-16T23:15:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-16T23:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=9027fba85d79b786b5b3eb908f272b6f"},"modified":"2018-05-16T23:15:00","modified_gmt":"2018-05-16T23:15:00","slug":"news-story-jobs-and-housing-unlocked-by-road-schemes-valued-at-more-than-570-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=91976","title":{"rendered":"News story: Jobs and housing unlocked by road schemes valued at more than \u00a3570 million"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A \u00a3400 million upgrade to the A1 will save drivers up to 3,000 hours in journey time a day when it is officially opened by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling today (17 May 2018).<\/p>\n<p>Chris Grayling will also announce a further \u00a3173 million of government funding for 3 major new road schemes ranging from Yorkshire to Devon.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Chris Grayling will visit Darlington to officially open the \u00a3400 million enhancement of the A1 Leeming to Barton scheme, the 6th scheme to be completed of the government\u2019s \u00a315 billion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/road-investment-strategy\">Road investment strategy<\/a> and said to be the largest road building project in the north.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We are investing record amounts in improving our roads \u2013 giving motorists quicker and safer journeys to go to work, see family and friends, or go shopping.<\/p>\n<p>Highways England is making good progress in delivering new road schemes right across the country, providing improved connections and new opportunities for businesses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">But we\u2019re not just focusing on our major roads. Today I have announced \u00a3173 million for schemes in Leicestershire, Devon and East Riding, which will not only save drivers time stuck in traffic, but help support thousands of new jobs and homes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/-Of7aeZHHw8\">A1 Leeming to Barton video<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Almost 70,000 drivers each day will use the new stretch of dual carriageway in Darlington. This scheme is just one on the journey between Newcastle and London which is being upgraded, from the M1 widening at Leeds; the Catthorpe interchange between the M1, M6 and A14 near Rugby; and smart motorway projects at Sheffield, Nottingham, Northampton, and Milton Keynes.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a3173 million of government funding, also announced today, will go towards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/upgrades-to-north-devon-link-road-to-boost-business\">improving the North Devon Link Road<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/melton-mowbray-bypass-will-help-support-thousands-of-jobs-and-homes\">creating the Melton Mowbray Eastern Distributor Road<\/a><\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/vital-51-million-road-improvements-on-a164-given-go-ahead\">improving Jock\u2019s Lodge junction<\/a> near Beverley<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The cash will see a new bypass for Melton Mowbray given \u00a349.5 million as part of the government\u2019s programme of Large Local Major schemes.
