{"id":92436,"date":"2018-05-31T17:10:00","date_gmt":"2018-05-31T17:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=10b86d8ac5a7659969ef92eb6da1cec4"},"modified":"2018-05-31T17:10:00","modified_gmt":"2018-05-31T17:10:00","slug":"news-story-scottish-secretary-tours-stirling-universitys-world-leading-institute-of-aquaculture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=92436","title":{"rendered":"News story: Scottish Secretary tours Stirling University\u2019s world-leading Institute of Aquaculture"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Scottish Secretary David Mundell met with academics and toured the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling to hear about their work, and how UK Government funding to the university \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/90-million-stirling-and-clackmannanshire-uk-city-region-deal-launched\">part of the Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal<\/a> will help them continue their cutting edge research and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The City Region Deal confirms that the UK Government will invest \u00a317 million to build a new Aquaculture Hub for Innovation.<\/p>\n<p>This will be unique in Scotland and the UK, and will operate four aquatic research facilities which between them will provide the full range of marine environmental conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The hub will create research and development opportunities that will secure jobs and an economic contribution in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The deal also confirms that the UK Government will invest up to \u00a35 million into a new international Scottish Environment Centre, which will provide an integrated approach to cutting-edge research, innovation, skills development, inclusion and sustainable growth that tackles global environmental challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was welcomed by University Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerry McCormac, who said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">I welcome today\u2019s signing of a City Deal for Stirling and Clackmannanshire, which will bring significant economic benefits.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Investment in world-class research through the City Deal will enable University of Stirling researchers to further tackle some of the world\u2019s most pressing problems.
