{"id":92524,"date":"2018-06-05T06:06:25","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T06:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=96276421b426a9c190bbe1e6e3a513b1"},"modified":"2018-06-05T06:06:25","modified_gmt":"2018-06-05T06:06:25","slug":"news-story-rbs-share-sale-returns-2-5-billion-to-uk-taxpayers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=92524","title":{"rendered":"News story: RBS share sale returns \u00a32.5 billion to UK taxpayers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Over \u00a32.5 billion worth of government-owned <abbr title=\"Royal Bank of Scotland\">RBS<\/abbr> shares were sold last night as part of the government\u2019s policy to return the bank to private ownership. 925 million shares were sold at a price of 271p per share, reducing the government\u2019s shareholding by 7.7% to 62.4%.<\/p>\n<p>The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This sale represents a significant step in returning <abbr title=\"Royal Bank of Scotland\">RBS<\/abbr> to full private ownership and putting the financial crisis behind us. The government should not be in the business of owning banks.
