{"id":92539,"date":"2018-06-05T11:20:23","date_gmt":"2018-06-05T11:20:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=de771c1eecd21c47e210408ff3591ab9"},"modified":"2018-06-05T11:20:23","modified_gmt":"2018-06-05T11:20:23","slug":"press-release-self-parking-cars-could-be-on-a-street-near-you-by-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=92539","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Self-parking cars could be on a street near you by 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Specialist UK technology and automotive businesses invited to bid for \u00a330m to help make self-parking cars a reality<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Two new funding competitions will also create two permanent self-driving test sites in the UK, the first of the kind in Europe<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Part of the government\u2019s modern Industrial Strategy aimed at developing the transport system of the future<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Companies are today invited to bid for \u00a330 million of funding to support the development of self-driving vehicles on UK roads, Business Minister Richard Harrington announced today.<\/p>\n<p>Funded through the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (<abbr title=\"Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles\">CCAV<\/abbr>) and Meridian, the Government\u2019s unique hub for testing autonomous technology, the competitions see Government and industry jointly investing in UK businesses to help realise the Government\u2019s ambition to see fully self-driving vehicles on UK roads by 2021.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image embedded\">\n<div class=\"img\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.publishing.service.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/image_data\/file\/75477\/UK_Autodrive_self-driving_pod_London_photoshoot_4_Editorial_use_only_Not_for_commercial_use_Image_credit_UK_Autodrive_960x640.jpg\" alt=\"UK Autodrive\"><\/div><figcaption>Uk Autodrive self-driving pod London<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The next round of the competition could answer drivers\u2019 parking woes since up to \u00a35m will be awarded to projects developing and testing autonomous parking technology. This technology will allow self-driving cars to park in a range of different environments without human intervention. The money will also fund two public-testing sites for self-driving cars in urban settings, the first of the kind in Europe, these sites will ensure that connected and autonomous vehicles to become a normal feature on UK roads. It is part of the modern Industrial Strategy\u2019s Mobility Grand Challenge to invest in and shape the design, development and manufacture of the transport system of tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/edit?o=U&amp;video_id=KnxOxFPQ7Z4\">Automotive Minister Richard Harrington experiences <abbr title=\"Connected and Autonomous Vehicles\">CAV<\/abbr> technology first-hand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Business Minister Richard Harrington said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Self-driving vehicles have the potential to revolutionise the way we move people and goods across the UK. They also support our ambition for a cleaner, greener future as part of our modern Industrial Strategy. Meridian continues the acceleration of the UKs <abbr title=\"Connected and Autonomous Vehicles\">CAV<\/abbr> development facilities with the announcement of important partnerships as part of the latest outcomes of the TestBed program, Wave 2&amp;3. Through this we will help businesses to create better, higher-paying jobs &#8211; setting a path for Britain to lead in the high-tech, highly-skilled industries of the future.<\/p>\n<p>The Industrial Strategy names four <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/industrial-strategy-the-grand-challenges\">Grand Challenges<\/a> to put us at the forefront of the industries of the future. The challenges will direct the focus of Government and engage the private sector, academics and civic society to ensure we take advantage of major global trends, improving people\u2019s lives and the country\u2019s productivity.<\/p>\n<p>Notes to Editors &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Specific information about the two funding competitions, which will be delivered by Innovate UK:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Meridian 2: \u00a35m for one data exchange capability that will provide a commercial marketplace for <abbr title=\"Connected and Autonomous Vehicles\">CAV<\/abbr> data from vehicles. The data will be accessible and shareable while maintaining privacy and security.
