{"id":92566,"date":"2018-06-06T08:51:00","date_gmt":"2018-06-06T08:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f7d1a9fcb68d7875978541300bb82c9e"},"modified":"2018-06-06T08:51:00","modified_gmt":"2018-06-06T08:51:00","slug":"news-story-llwr-joins-fight-to-combat-pollution-on-our-beaches","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=92566","title":{"rendered":"News story: LLWR joins fight to combat pollution on our beaches"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Volunteers from LLWR and Framework partner GRAHAM Construction played their part in battling pollution on World Environment Day (WED) with a Beach Clean at Drigg, in west Cumbria.<\/p>\n<p>WED, a platform for raising awareness on urgent issues, from marine pollution and global warming to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime, has grown into a worldwide event since its inception in 1974, now spanning over 100 countries.<\/p>\n<p>LLWR has been running a poster campaign on its sites to highlight the blight of plastic pollution, which is the theme of WED this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe most discarded single use plastic items at LLWR are plastic bottles,\u201d said Cath Giel, LLWR\u2019s Head of Public Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are asking our workforce to think about items they use out of habit, and if they really need to use them on a regular basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre plastic straws and plastic cutlery really necessary, or could they be substituted for alternatives that are kinder to the Earth?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTakeaway coffee cups have a plastic liner that cannot be recycled cheaply or easily.
