{"id":93135,"date":"2018-06-22T12:34:06","date_gmt":"2018-06-22T12:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=5c5b655d3fca9b8d9b2de59b4e81b4d1"},"modified":"2018-06-22T12:34:06","modified_gmt":"2018-06-22T12:34:06","slug":"press-release-sentence-doubled-for-man-who-violently-attacked-victim-in-sheffield-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=93135","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Sentence doubled for man who violently attacked victim in Sheffield home"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>A man who attempted to violently rob a vulnerable family friend has today had his sentence increased after the<br \/>\nSolicitor General, Robert Buckland QC MP, referred his sentence for being too low.<\/p>\n<p>The victim let Bernie Ward, 32, into his home in January and the two had a conversation before Ward began punching the victim in the face and threatening him with a knife. The victim suffered a stab-wound to the arm, bleeding on the brain which led to an uncommon form of stroke, and serious bruising and cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Ward was originally sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court in April, where he received 3 years 4 months\u2019 imprisonment. Today, after the Solicitor General\u2019s referral, the Court of Appeal increased his sentence to 6 years 8 months.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the sentence increase, the Solicitor General said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Ward targeted a victim he knew to be vulnerable and subjected him to a brutal attack in his own home.
