{"id":93318,"date":"2018-06-28T06:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-06-28T06:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=fb9a41cbbe4512675d7e13927e5fc9c8"},"modified":"2018-06-28T06:00:03","modified_gmt":"2018-06-28T06:00:03","slug":"news-story-washroom-suppliers-merger-faces-in-depth-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=93318","title":{"rendered":"News story: Washroom suppliers\u2019 merger faces in-depth investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Today\u2019s decision follows the Competition and Markets Authority\u2019s (CMA) initial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/washroom-suppliers-merger-may-raise-competition-concerns\">Phase 1 investigation<\/a>, which found that the deal could lead to higher prices and lower quality for businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Rentokil, which trades as Initial for washroom services, and Cannon are 2 of the UK\u2019s largest suppliers of washroom products and services. They install and maintain equipment such as air sanitisers, feminine hygiene units, nappy bins and soap dispensers in commercial, industrial and public buildings.<\/p>\n<p>The firms did not offer measures to address the CMA\u2019s concerns, and so it has referred the merger for a more in-depth, Phase 2 investigation.<\/p>\n<p>A decision on the merger will now be made by a group of independent panel members supported by a case team of CMA staff.
