The outbreak has been linked to frozen sweetcorn.<\/p>\n<p>Public Health England (<abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr>) is working with the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.food.gov.uk\/\">Food Standards Agency (<abbr title=\"Food Standards Agency\">FSA<\/abbr>)<\/a>, <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foodstandards.gov.scot\/\">Food Standards Scotland (<abbr title=\"Food Standards Scotland\">FSS<\/abbr>)<\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hps.scot.nhs.uk\/\">Health Protection Scotland (<abbr title=\"Health Protection Scotland\">HPS<\/abbr>)<\/a> to identify the cause of 11 cases in the UK. Along with The <abbr title=\"Food Standards Agency\">FSA<\/abbr>, FFS and <abbr title=\"Health Protection Scotland\">HPS<\/abbr>, <abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr> is reminding people that most frozen vegetables, including sweetcorn, need to be cooked before eating. More details of the outbreak can be found on the <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.food.gov.uk\/news-alerts\/news\/precautionary-advice-on-cooking-frozen-vegetables-following-europe-wide-listeriosis-outbreak\"><abbr title=\"Food Standards Agency\">FSA<\/abbr><\/a> and <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/ecdc.europa.eu\/en\/publications-data\/multi-country-outbreak-listeria-monocytogenes-serogroup-ivb-multi-locus-0\"><abbr title=\"European Centre for Disease Control\">ECDC<\/abbr><\/a> websites.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Kathie Grant, Head of Gastrointestinal Bacteria Reference Unit at <abbr title=\"Public Health England\">PHE<\/abbr>, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We have been working with partners to identify the cause of 11 cases of listeriosis dating back to 2015, which are part of a larger outbreak across Europe.<\/p>\n<p>Most people won\u2019t have any symptoms of the infection or will only experience mild symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhoea, which usually pass within a few days without the need for treatment. More serious infection can develop in those with weakened immune systems or in vulnerable groups including babies, the elderly or pregnant women.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">The best way to prevent listeriosis is to practise good food hygiene. Along with the <abbr title=\"Food Standards Agency\">FSA<\/abbr>, <abbr title=\"Food Standards Scotland\">FSS<\/abbr> and <abbr title=\"Health Protection Scotland\">HPS<\/abbr>, we are reminding people that most frozen vegetables, including sweetcorn, need to be cooked before eating.
