{"id":93802,"date":"2018-07-11T08:00:01","date_gmt":"2018-07-11T08:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=f861c42b655862ab8705bb0e11ac2d86"},"modified":"2018-07-11T08:00:01","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T08:00:01","slug":"news-story-up-to-1-8-million-to-maximise-benefits-of-hs2-for-east-midlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=93802","title":{"rendered":"News story: Up to \u00a31.8 million to maximise benefits of HS2 for East Midlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<div class=\"call-to-action\">\n<ul>\n<li>up to \u00a31.8 million of funding provided by government to East Midlands <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Partnership to maximise the benefits of <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> at Toton<\/li>\n<li>allocation continues significant investment in the region to create jobs, housing and drive forward regeneration<\/li>\n<li>\n<abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> expected to provide a \u00a34 billion boost to the East Midlands economy, creating 74,000 new jobs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>East Midlands <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Partnership will receive up to \u00a31.8 million of funding to help realise the extraordinary potential of the new <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> station at Toton, the Transport Secretary has announced today (11 July 2018).<\/p>\n<p>With high speed trains serving Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and other mainline stations, a new station at Toton will deliver significantly faster journeys for passengers and improved connections to Birmingham, London and Leeds.<\/p>\n<p>This builds on significant previous funding for the region, with the government providing Midlands Connect with \u00a325 million to develop a transformational transport strategy for the region, as well as investing \u00a31.8 billion on the region\u2019s motorways and trunk roads and distributing \u00a31.7 billion from the Local Growth Fund.<\/p>\n<p>This additional funding will further develop proposals for public transport connections to the Toton hub, ensuring surrounding communities benefit from new rail, tram and bus services, as well as improved road access, to the new <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> station.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals also include the development of an innovation campus \u2014 creating 10,000 skilled jobs \u2014 and 4 new garden villages around the station, driving regeneration and unlocking new housing opportunities. By 2043, it is anticipated that up to 74,000 new jobs will be created, boosting the regional economy by \u00a34 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>As the future backbone of our national rail network, <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> is vital for delivering better connections between our major cities, bringing communities closer together with faster, more frequent services for passengers.<\/p>\n<p>It will also play a pivotal role in boosting productivity and prosperity across the country, with new and improved stations acting as catalysts for regeneration, jobs, new housing and economic growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">Committing additional funding to support the development of a <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> station at Toton will help drive forward ambitious proposals, ensuring that the region stands ready to seize the enormous benefits of <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cllr Jon Collins, Chair of the East Midlands <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Strategic Board and Leader of Nottingham City Council, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I am delighted about today\u2019s announcement. The additional funding will help us to progress some of the key infrastructure projects that will make our growth ambitions a reality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">We will continue to work closely with <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Ltd and the Department for Transport to make sure the forthcoming <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Phase 2b Hybrid Bill supports the delivery the Growth Strategy.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Cllr Kay Cutts <abbr title=\"Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\">MBE<\/abbr>, Chair of the Toton Hub Station Delivery Board and Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> at Toton will present enormous opportunities for growth in the Midlands which is home to untapped potential.<\/p>\n<p>I feel it is particularly important to listen to local people and businesses as we create new garden villages and opportunities for businesses and universities to be developed side by side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This is exactly what our plans for Toton will deliver with the backing of government and this additional funding.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Peter Richardson, Chair of the <abbr title=\"Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire\">D2N2<\/abbr> Local Enterprise Partnership, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\"><abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> will be a real \u2018game changer\u2019 for the East Midlands economy. The <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> Hub Station at Toton together with the maintenance depot at Staveley and <abbr title=\"High Speed Two\">HS2<\/abbr> connectivity for Chesterfield are all massive opportunities for our businesses and in particular our young people.
