{"id":93922,"date":"2018-07-13T16:28:07","date_gmt":"2018-07-13T16:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=40acfe834851e1a4a9c7200d472b73e2"},"modified":"2018-07-13T16:28:07","modified_gmt":"2018-07-13T16:28:07","slug":"press-release-heathrows-flying-visit-to-west-cumbria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=93922","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Heathrow\u2019s flying visit to West Cumbria"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>Heathrow is creating four regional support hubs, in various locations, in order to spread the economic benefits of their expansion around the UK.<\/p>\n<p>We submitted an expression of interest in turning the former Alcan site at Lillyhall into a \u2018Heathrow Hub\u2019 on behalf of our supply chain and local stakeholders, including Cumbria\u2019s Local Enterprise Partnership, Allerdale Borough Council, Copeland Borough Council, Britain\u2019s Energy Coast Business Cluster, Sue Hayman MP (Workington) and Trudy Harrison MP (Copeland).<\/p>\n<p>If successful the site could be used as a base for logistics, manufacturing and construction. It has already made the \u2018long-list\u2019 after initial expressions of interest were whittled down from 121 to 65.<\/p>\n<p>A delegation from Heathrow has been visiting each of the 65 sites over several months \u2013 today was our turn. As well as the Alcan site, the delegation visited the Port of Workington.<\/p>\n<p>Our head of community and development, Jamie Reed, and our head of community relations, Gary McKeating, hosted the visit, which was also attended by stakeholders including Sue Hayman, Mark Fryer, deputy leader of Allerdale Borough Council, Pat Graham, the Chief Executive of Copeland Borough Council and John Grainger, from Britain\u2019s Energy Coast Business Cluster.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"what-has-heathrows-expansion-got-to-do-with-sellafield\">What has Heathrow\u2019s expansion got to do with Sellafield?<\/h3>\n<p>Creating resilient economies is one of the objectives of our Social Impact Strategy \u2013 that means we\u2019ve made a commitment to helping drive new economic opportunities for the region (as well as increasing the scale, diversity and development of existing sectors).<\/p>\n<p>In short that means that we have a strategic aim to help improve the short and long term economic prospects of the region \u2013 and an opportunity like the one presented by Heathrow\u2019s expansion could have a significant and sustainable positive impact.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"what-happens-next\">What happens next?<\/h3>\n<p>Heathrow will take some time to further consider the next steps, and will come back to those long-listed to seek more information and invite formal bids after shortlisting.<\/p>\n<p>If successful we\u2019ll work in collaboration with partners in West Cumbria to develop a formal bid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A delegation from Heathrow visited West Cumbria today, assessing our bid to benefit from the airport\u2019s planned expansion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/93922"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=93922"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/93922\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=93922"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=93922"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=93922"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
