{"id":94091,"date":"2018-07-19T11:29:53","date_gmt":"2018-07-19T11:29:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=eb5a3427159dfdd62b3bf934946f0f7e"},"modified":"2018-07-19T11:29:53","modified_gmt":"2018-07-19T11:29:53","slug":"news-story-humane-trapping-standards-consultation-response","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=94091","title":{"rendered":"News story: Humane trapping standards: Consultation response"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>The government has today (19 July) published its response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/humane-trapping-standards-consultation-starts\">six-week consultation<\/a> on introducing new and improved international humane trapping standards.<\/p>\n<p>The <a rel=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/legal-content\/EN\/TXT\/PDF\/?uri=CELEX:21998A0214(02)&amp;from=EN\">Agreement on Human Trapping Standards (AIHTS)<\/a> seeks to improve the welfare of fur-bearing animals trapped for their pelts as well as for conservation and pest control purposes.<\/p>\n<p>It sets out clearly-defined minimum trap humaneness standards and trap testing procedures, creating an internationally recognised benchmark for trap welfare.<\/p>\n<p>The government supports this objective and shares the British public\u2019s high regard for animal welfare. During the six-week public consultation, evidence was provided by a range of contributors on the supply, use and marking of traps. The responses were broadly supportive of the increase in welfare standards.<\/p>\n<p>The government will implement AIHTS as soon as possible in 2019 but include a transitional provision for stoat trapping which delays implementation for stoat by a year.
