{"id":94283,"date":"2018-07-24T13:48:41","date_gmt":"2018-07-24T13:48:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?guid=89e957c5006d34477a66dedaec549dc7"},"modified":"2018-07-24T13:48:41","modified_gmt":"2018-07-24T13:48:41","slug":"press-release-government-proposes-shake-up-of-local-enterprise-partnerships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mostafa.openonline.co.uk\/?p=94283","title":{"rendered":"Press release: Government proposes shake-up of Local Enterprise Partnerships"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"govspeak\">\n<p>New proposals for Local Enterprise Partnerships (<abbr title=\"Local Enterprise Partnerships\">LEPs<\/abbr>) to supercharge economic growth and drive forward investment in local businesses across the country have been put forward by ministers today (24 July 2018).<\/p>\n<p>The publication of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/strengthened-local-enterprise-partnerships\">\u2018Strengthened Local Enterprise Partnerships\u2019<\/a>  review sees government delivering on its promise in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/industrial-strategy-building-a-britain-fit-for-the-future\">Industrial Strategy white paper<\/a> to bring forward reforms to the leadership, governance and accountability of the 38 <abbr title=\"Local Enterprise Partnerships\">LEPs<\/abbr> charged with kick-starting economic growth and creating jobs in their regions.<\/p>\n<p>The review proposes a number of changes to boost the performance of <abbr title=\"Local Enterprise Partnerships\">LEPs<\/abbr>, increase their diversity and ensure they\u2019re operating in an open and transparent way. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>up to \u00a320 million of additional funding between 2018 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 to support the implementation of these changes and embed evidence in Local Industrial Strategies<\/li>\n<li>supporting <abbr title=\"Local Enterprise Partnerships\">LEPs<\/abbr> to consult widely and transparently on appointing new Chairs and improve board diversity<\/li>\n<li>a requirement for women to make up at least one third of LEP boards by 2020 with the expectation of equal representation by 2023<\/li>\n<li>a mandate for <abbr title=\"Local Enterprise Partnerships\">LEPs<\/abbr> to submit proposals for revised geographies including removing situations in which 2 LEP geographies overlap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Communities Secretary, Rt. Hon James Brokenshire MP, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This publication of the Strengthened Local Enterprise Partnerships policy represents a step change in approach for <abbr title=\"Local Enterprise Partnerships\">LEPs<\/abbr>.
